A lovely double whammy of good news today - two of my favourite groups of idiots have been nominated for Chortle Awards! Both Weirdos Comedy Club and Comedian's Cinema Club have been nominated for the Music & Variety Award, alongside the brilliant Spencer Jones and Pippa Evans.
Weirdos, as most everybody reading this will know, have become like a second family of sorts over the last few years and it's been a real pleasure fooling about with them on lots of different projects. This Christmas our annual alternative panto was our biggest achievement yet, selling out every single night and raising well over £5000 for Great Ormond Street, while also being named critic's choice by the Guardian, the Times, the Independent and TimeOut among others. We also sold out the Leicester Square Theatre last year with the Weirdos' co-production with Laugh Out London of an unofficial Harry Potter sequel. This nomination is a lovely way to round off a great year, so massive congratulations to Chief Weirdo Adam Larter, without whom none of it would happen, and to the entire Weirdos family, who are all brilliant.
Cinema Club has gone from strength-to-strength over the last few months too. After a great Edinburgh run with a huge number of sell-out shows we've continued our residency at the Phoenix in Cavendish Square while also playing venues across the country including the Cube in Bristol, and a sell-out show to a crowd of over two hundred for TimeOut at Winterville in Victoria Park at Christmas. Huge congratulations to the big chiefs of Cinema Club, Eric Lampaert, Matthew Highton and Will Seaward, it's been another hugely fun projecto to be part of.
You can read the full list of Chortle Award nominees here, and later today you can vote for your favourites - I'm going to remain impartial, but I strongly recommend you either vote for Weirdos or Cinema Club because we are all the greatest.
